One of Romania’s leading beer producers ended 2024 with a turnover of almost RON1bn, up 10% from the previous year. At the same time, the company paid 14% more taxes and duties to the state budget compared to 2023, surpassing the RON282m threshold.
„2024 has undoubtedly been a difficult year and the Romanian beer market has not been spared the challenges. In a complex social and economic context, we consolidated our position through a consistent approach, focused on expanding our portfolio of brands and strengthening commercial partnerships. This is the fourth consecutive year of double-digit turnover growth, a validation that our strategy is working sustainably. Last year we launched Caraiman, an important innovation in the core segment, we continued to be the beer of the supporters of the National Football Team at the European Championship through the Bergenbier brand and we were present with premium brands at the most important festivals in the country. All these achievements have been made possible thanks to the close collaboration with our partners and a dedicated team, an essential asset of our organization”, Mihai Voicu, General Manager of Bergenbier S.A., part of the Molson Coors Beverage Company group, mentioned.
Over the last five years, the above mentioned beer producer has been engaged in a process of commercial expansion and portfolio diversification, with a focus on the core, premium and alcohol-free segments.
„The 2024 results reflect the efforts of a motivated team, effective investment in our brands, good cost management and constant adaptation to market realities. Despite macroeconomic uncertainties that complicated our financial planning, we achieved our objectives and recorded a significant fiscal contribution. Our strategy, validated by over 53% growth in turnover from 2020 to date, demonstrates that Bergenbier S.A. can deliver performance even in volatile contexts. We will continue to navigate these challenging times together with our partners and colleagues and we will bet on agility and efficiency in our strategic and operational approach”, Oana Popa, Finance Director, added.
For 2025, the company remains cautious about growth prospects. Fiscal instability, restrictive economic measures and declining purchasing power may negatively affect the development of the entire sector.
„We look to the immediate future with caution. While we have a solid foundation – supported by launches such as Madrí Excepcional, continued investment in the Ploiești brewhouse and our teams – we are facing tax increases, and the excise tax on beer will increase by 10% from August 1. The entire context forces us to be reticent about new investments and reserved about market growth in 2025. We will continue with our strategic plans for the current year, aware that optimization of resources and adaptability will be essential in the coming period”, Mihai Voicu concluded.
